The 2017 Air & Waste Management Association’s Annual Conference & Exhibition

The AWMA Annual Conference will examine how leaders in industry, government, academia, and non-governmental citizen groups work together to improve community health and protect the environment. The Pittsburgh area is a great example of the amazing improvements in environmental quality and health that can occur when these groups are bridged together. Industry in this region has evolved to a diverse portfolio of energy suppliers, manufacturing plants, medical facilities and technology companies that are harnessing energy in sustainable and innovative ways.
Babst Calland Attorney Donald Bluedorn will share some of his experiences as Special Environmental Counsel for Freedom Industries, Inc. regarding the January 2014 MCHM release to the Elk River in Charleston, W. Va. He has more than 30 years of experience dealing with complex environmental legal and crisis issues including the Freedom matter and other environmental crisis matter. He will lead a panel discussion that will present a practical road map for navigating environmental crisis management issues.
Attorney Kathy Condo will be a panelist on Air Pollution and Human Health: Response to Public Complaint. This panel consisting of a plant representative, physician, lawyer, and risk assessor will discuss a scenario of potential human health impacts and explain their roles in responding to the scenario. The purpose of this exercise will be to provide a demonstration of the importance of understanding the connection of industrial pollution and human health.
