Attorney Kip Power will give a presentation on the “West Virginia Underground Carbon Dioxide Sequestration & Storage Act” to the Women’s Energy Network’s West Virginia Chapter on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

In 2022, the West Virginia Legislature enacted the West Virginia Underground Carbon Dioxide Sequestration and Storage Act, which became effective on May 30, 2022. It is an important law, designed as the beginning stages of a platform for the development of sustainable energy operations using existing natural resources in our State and to promote renewable energy projects based on emerging technologies in other areas. Federal and State developments since then have confirmed the need for such a statute and highlighted the need for further regulatory mechanisms to facilitate such projects in West Virginia. This presentation will focus on the provisions of the new law, possible areas for refinement or expansion, and other developments since its enactment.
